Overview

Combinatorics is the branch of math primarily concerned with counting.

Let $A$ and $B$ be finite, disjoint sets. The additive principle states that

| A \cup B | = | A | + | B | .

Let $A$ and $B$ be two finite sets. The multiplicative principle states that

| A \times B | = | A | \cdot | B | .
